Decorex International is finally here, and with it comes the ability to find out whats new, whats up and coming, and what's older but here to stay for the long haul! This year celebrates 40 years of Decorex, so it was a particularly exciting event to visit as part of London Design Festival.
There were many interesting themes coming across at Decorex International, and one that came through on a lot of stands was the sense of bringing the outside in using greens, browns, and similar colours. There was also a floral theme going on in a few of the collections as well as a retro theme. Treniq were also there promoting their online platform, and it's with massive thanks to those guys for the experience.
The following are the brands and products that stood out the most to me though:
1. Amode London
Amode London are celebrating their 10th birthday this year, and with their quirky designs, and interesting pattern/colour combinations, this brand is great for those who want eye catching furniture. The chairs and sofas are super comfortable and are a good height for transferring you're a wheelchair user that loves lounging on the sofa at home!
2. Chadder & Co
Chadder & Co design amazing vintage bathroom fittings and baths. Their bath display on their stand complete with lion head tap drew me in straight away. These baths are definitely for the bold, and those who want their bathroom to make a statement, and be a million miles away from the normal, dull white/chrome bathroom set!
3. The Games Room Company
The Games Room Company restore and sell retro games machines, drinks machines (like the 1950's Coca-Cola vending machine in the gallery, and 1950's style juke boxes! The machines make a great edition to a games room, and are even great for those who want a little but of 50's magic in their home! The games machines are a really good height for kids as well as adults which means it's fun for all the family, and being good for kids means it's good for wheelchair users, those with height related conditions and other disabilities.
4. Tektura
Tektura certainly make appealing decors, and the theme of bring the outside in really could be seen here. The decor was very different to that of others in terms of the colours used on their wallpapers, but it makes for stunning wallpaper that would suit those wanting to bring a little bit of nature into their home.
5. Phillip Watts Design
Phillip Watts Design make incredible sculptures, and are definitely at the forefront of creative design. Designs include hand prints, sculptures with nature themes such as bark, sink basins with designs so unique that it's unlikely your friends will know of anyone else with that basin, door handles and other home interior products.
6. Kaelo
Here's a scenario. You want to serve ice cold drinks and pop them in an ice bucket, but before you can even go to get a nice cold drink, the ice has melted, and the bottles are soaked in water. Sound familiar? Well Kaelo have developed these amazing iceless ice buckets, complete with mood lighting and gorgeous designs! They make the perfect edition to any home, and are great for house parties, garden parties, and general get togethers.
7. Harrison Spinks
Harrison Spinks beds are not only extremely comfortable and supportive thanks to their unique pocket spring system, but also come in such a range of colours that those looking for something different will almost definitely find it here. Their beds start on a farm in Yorkshire, a far cry from the factory where many beds start their lives from. The handmade luxury of the mattresses with hand stitches means that the quality of the beds and value of them is huge. The beds are great for those needing comfort, and are a great alternative to the unbreathable horrors of the memory foam mattress!
8. Royal Crown Derby
Royal Crown derby have been making dinner services and related items since 1750, and have an extensive and rich history for themselves including but not limited to, being the designers behind the dinner services used in the first class lounge on Titanic.
9. Waterworks
Waterworks are another bathroom fittings company, with contemporary and modern designs that catch the eye in a completely different way to that of Chadder & Co. The products are all customisable and can be bespoke to your needs, which suits everyone wether you have a disability or not. The double sinks can also be made at different heights which I found extremely interesting, especially as most standard height sink basin units seem to be made for those who are 6' plus!
10.Cole & Son
Cole & Son's celebration of icons and the 50's Miami palette is proving to be a hit this year! Their intricate designs and coloured wallpapers make the perfect edition to any room, and are excellent for feature walls! The array of colours and patterns mean that the designs will suit anyone and everyone because there's bound to be a design that catches your eye.
